Tips for Your First Spa Experience
If the idea of visiting a spa makes you nervous, you’re certainly not alone. Several people’s first spa experience is through a gift card. For some people, this spa visit never happens because they’re anxious about what could possibly transpire and being clueless about spa etiquette essentials.
But just relax. The number one issue is being naked during a massage. In reality, spas – reputable ones at least – follow strict regulations for draping during massage. You only need to expose the specific area of your body that is being worked on. The rest will be covered with a blanket or a large towel. Also, there are treatments that let you keep your clothes on, such as reflexology.
Selecting a Spa
Most of us select a spa depending on what’s convenient to us – located nearby, costs cheap, etc. However, there are lots of other factors that should also be looked into, such as whether or not therapists are licensed, and so on. In fact, if there’s a spa that is much cheaper than the others, this may be a sign that their therapists are not licensed.
The demeanor of the staff should be considered too, and you can test it with a single call. If they’re rude or unprofessional, forget it. And when you actually get there at the spa, you should be greeted by a sense of quiet with only soft music in the background, low lighting, soothing aromas, and a clean environment.
If you’d like to have a good idea of what a spa is like, politely request for a tour around the place before booking. Often, they would be eager to give you one. When booking a session, let them know it’s your first. You can expect them to be more patient with you in providing answers to any questions you may have. In most cases, they will probably ask you some questions too, such as your preferred therapist, whether male or female.
Just Before Going
Getting a massage on a full stomach means you’ll likely keep passing gas as the therapist works on your body. And drink plenty of water following treatment enjoy enhanced benefits.
Communicating with Your Therapist
Lastly, talk to your therapist as you go along with the massage. So if you want them to press lighter, speak up and they will be glad to follow your lead. If you want to have a little chat or none at all, they will take your cue. It’s really all about you and what you want, so take it easy and just enjoy.
