Requirements When Applying For A Passport
If you love traveling but do not know how to get started , then one of the things you need to do is get your passport. A passport is the most important requirement for you to be let out of your country. If this is your first time applying for a passport, these simple steps will guide you on what you need to do.
The first thing you need to do is get the forms to fill out for your passport. These forms can be found online, or you can get them at your local government office. Use a black pen to put down your details in case you are filing them by hand. These forms usually ask for a brief description of yourself and personal details.
You will also be required to give proof of citizenship when you are submitting your passport application forms. this can either be your government-issued birth certificate, previous passport, or a certificate to prove your citizenship. They may require to use secondary documentation like early school records or hospital birth certificate. These documents will need to be accompanied by a government letter that says the government issued birth certificate cannot be found.
When submitting these documents, it is also important for one to provide proof of identity. This is often in the form of an existing passport, naturalization certificate, driver’s license, military ID or any current government-issued Id. A photocopy of this needs to be submitted together with the application forms. in case an applicant does not have proof of identity, they will need several forms of secondary application. The applicant may need a credit card, an employee card, or an identifying witness to swear their identity.
Each application needs to be submitted with a 2-by-2-inch passport photo. The photo must be taken in color within less than six months to the application in front of a white or off-white background. The applicant needs to have a neutral expression, be looking directly at the camera , and their head should take majority of the frame. You are not to wear a hat or a hair covering unless you have a signed statement that shows it is for religious purposes. Unless one has a note from the doctor, there should be no glasses worn in the photo.
Parents need to provide their proof of identity when applying for a passport for a minor. The parent also needs to provide proof of relationship between them and the child and this can be a birth certificate, a court order, or an adoption decree. There needs to either be proof of sole guardianship, or a notarized statement from the absent parent granting permission in case one of them is not there when the child’s application is being submitted.
